Are Cane Corsos Good With Children?

 

 

Are Cane Corsos Good With Children? We feel this breed is exceptional with children. The Cane Corsos in general are bred to have a very warm and loving attitude towards their owners, they want nothing more than to spend time with their owner. These Dogs are also a working breed that has been bred for thousands of years to live on farms and to protect Estates. The fact that they have been on Farms and Estates for this long will tell you their loyalty in working to help the family structure is inherent in their bloodlines. Unlike other breeds, like the Pitbull this breed has no history of Dog fighting, this was an important factor in choosing this breed for my family.

 

 

It is still important to know that before you purchase a Cane Corso puppy you should consider some important safety guidelines:

 

Are Cane Corsos Good With Children? – Let’s looks at some History.

 

It is important to point out that their is evidence that Ancient Romans used the Cane Corso to actually watch over unattended children as they played on their property, this tells me their was a lot of trust invested in this breed at that time.

 

Should We  Leave Our Dogs Alone With Our Kids?

 

NO! Times have changed, I would never suggest doing this, although I must admit I trust the Dogs over most people, but this is just my personal opinion that may sound wacky!

It does not matter what breed it is important to never leave a child unsupervised with a dog. Some breeders and trainers will tell you to  never disturb a dog when they are eating.

They will also say, never allow your child to pull a dog’s tail, ears or any other part of their body. I agree with this, however here is the problem with that type of thinking. Children are going to pull the Dogs ears in the even it happens you want the Dog to not be shocked when it happens. I am NOT suggesting to test this temperament out on the Dog, but you as the owner must condition your Dog.

Here are some simple steps to condition your Dog to this behavior:

1.) Play with your Dogs food from when they are young, let them know that you are the boss and if you want to take the food away you can
2.) Massage their ears to let them know from when they are puppies that this is an area that you can touch
3.) Also Pet their tails, let them know that a little touch here and there is not a violation of their privacy and they will be conditioned over time.

 

Try these very simple steps and I will tell you the next time someone asks you….Are Cane Corsos Good With Children? I am almost sure you will say YES!
