Natural Cures for Fleas and Ticks

Natural Cures for Fleas and Ticks

I am going to share some ideas with you on my experience with my dogs and puppies. While, I do not guarantee any natural cures for fleas and ticks, I am an advocate of organic products whenever they are available. I personally feel that big corporations have dented the way people feel about natural products, since we are programmed early on to reject natural cures as “useless”. It is important to note that the U.S. ranks 26th in the World with regards to life expectancy right behind Slovenia in a 2013 study. With this study in mind, I think we can conclude that the U.S. is maybe the most advanced Nation in the world with regards to surveillance, but in health the U.S. has lots to learn.

Natural Tick Sprays For Your Yard

One issue I have always dealt with is the nasty ticks in Virginia. These creatures are prevalent where I live,  in the Shenandoah Valley, Va. These ticks are not only plentiful, but also carry Lyme Disease. Lyme Disease can hurt both people and animals. I was told of a full grown cow who died from Lyme Disease by a local farmer. My goal was to  not only eliminate ticks on my dogs, but to eliminate them on my children. This year, I can count the number of ticks my dogs had “5”. I credit this to a  natural cure  for fleas and ticks that I discovered online. It is a spray that you can buy and consists of different oils; Peppermint, Clove oil, and many others combined, apparently are very effective against ticks. I will be sure to use this same product next year.

I have done a short video on the natural cure that I have used, if you enjoy the video, please like it.

Here is the product I used, VETS+BEST. I am not including a link so people know that I am not promoting anything.

Diatomaceous Earth

Diatomaceous Earth  is a white powder like substance that can help kill fleas and ticks.  This substance is derived from marine phytoplankton, and should not be inhaled  at high doses. When sprinkled on a bug, that has an exoskeleton (such as bed bugs, ants or fleas) it compromises their coating and essentially dehydrates them to death. This dust does not hurt  mammals. We can eat this, in fact you have eaten it if you eat grain based foods. These foods are often stored with diatomaceous earth to keep the bugs from eating the grain! Cool…… so it’s natural and works well!

The important thing to us is, that if an insect with an exoskeleton gets diatomaceous earth on them, they will DIE!

Farmers dump  big scoops of food grade diatomaceous earth in the grains when the grains are stored. It kills the insects that want to feast on the grain. This is a great improvement over the stuff they used to put in with the grain.

Farmers feed gobs of diatomaceous earth (food grade) to animals in the hopes that it will cure whatever ails them. Many farmers swear that the stuff kills all sorts of worms in their critters.

One strange thing about diatomaceous earth is, that for it to work on killing bugs, you have to keep it dry. Even morning dew can make diatomaceous earth ineffective. I will sometimes discuss this with people and they will tell me their Vet told them it will not work. I say give it a try.
